A Furren Cow Saga and a Cabbage Yard Scheme
A humorous frontier tale unfolds in Stafford county about Squire Richer and John Smith who buy a Durham Cheshire short horn cow said to be from the continent. A ruse involving a painted disguise and a letter from the Earl of Derby leads to a costly Boston sale, ending with the cow revealed as a fake and a beef barrel in the Squire’s cellar.
