The final target shoot for 1880 was held last Friday afternoon with scores listed for each member, noting Sergt Borne won the Company badge last summer and Corp Knapp led the badge contest closely followed by Borne and Kinnear.

The Warren Clarendon railroad service, under Conductor Thos. Metzgar, operates two daily round trips on the P and FE road and carried 80 to 115 passengers last week. Land sales rise with high prices. Teachers Local Institute opens in Sugar Grove hall
The first 1880 Teacher's Local Institute met Friday afternoon November 5 in Sugar Grove school hall with O J Gunning presiding. Rev Wm Elliott spoke on the science of education at the M E Church in the evening and a late Saturday session followed amid praise for attendance and usefulness. Dozens of teachers attended including Mary Hamilton Effie Trimm Eda Markham Redmond Strickland and many others. Local merchants advertised cloths and fabric bargains in the same issue.

Eddy Family Reunion in Providence Honors Plymouth Landing
More than 500 Eddys gathered at James Eddy’s estate in Providence on October 29 to mark the 25th anniversary of John and Samuel Eddy’s 1630 arrival in Plymouth Massachusetts. The event featured a sermon by Rev Dr Zachary Eddy, an oration comparing the family to a banyan tree, music led by Andrew B Eddy and others, and a grand dinner. Letters from relatives in Rome and England were read and poems delivered as the Eddy line celebrated its heritage amid readings from official programme. Auld Lang Syne closed the gathering.

Col Edwin L. Drake of Bethlehem dies after fifteen years of ill health. He drilled the first oil well at Watsons Flats near Titusville in 1859, launching a petroleum boom that produced thousands of wells and massive exports. He leaves a wife and three children and had received a civil pension.
