Rural Members Stir Over Plan Change in Department
Rural representatives express concern as the department considers modifications to its agricultural program. Endorsements and opposition shape ongoing discussions among local farming groups and advisory boards.
Revenue Bills Through House and Senate Fight Over Plan
Harrisburg May 15. A census to determine farmers needs and city resources has begun as part of a plan to boost efficiency amid food shortages. The Schantz Lohr bill would replace the agriculture commission with a sixty seven county board of agriculture and an executive committee of seven. The House defeats Maurer farming bill and advances a fish code set to take effect January 1, 1918. The Woodward plan imposes a two percent tax on crude petroleum natural gas and coal with revenue to fund hospitals and pensions.
