Dangers of Forest Fires and Mountain Forests

The piece argues that letting forests burn harms land suited for forest growth, and mountain forests protect streams. As these forests are destroyed floods worsen and stream water diminishes in dry seasons. Rainwater infiltrates through leaf litter, slowing runoff and nourishing soils.

Forest cover and water supply endangerment

The article explains how forest litter layers absorb rain and feed streams, while clear-cutting leads to drought, floods, and wasted irrigation. It notes government irrigation projects exceeding ten million dollars annually depend on headwater forests to sustain reservoirs and dry-season water.
