Speaker Walton and about twenty Appropriation Committee members toured the State Hospital for the Insane in Warren last Friday. They inspected the main building and farm colony, dined on site, and returned to Philadelphia that night. Several members became sickened by the scene but Warren’s requested appropriation was supported as needed.
The Church News reports lay reader F L Matteson licensed by the Bishop for Trinity Parish and serving during Lent. Confirmation likely on the third Sunday in May with lectures to be announced. Feeny and Lauffenburger Wed in Ackley nuptials with Rev. W A Bennett presiding. Mabel E Feeny of Ackley marries Albert Lauffenburger of Russell Pa.
Rev. W. P. Bignell died at his Greenville home on March 22, aged 78. Former pastor of Warren First M. E. Church for about twenty years, he was regarded as a bright mind and eloquent speaker of the Erie Conference. His memory lives with those who knew him. Rap Fire report notes a yard bonfire sparked a blaze at Will Watson’s home on Second Street. Firefighters saved the house. Watson estimates $2,000 in damage, fully insured. Neighbors helped move items to safety. temporary quarters taken nearby. The Fire Department, Centennial unit arrived quickly. The piece warns against burning near buildings.
In St Louis 1904 Pennsylvania education exhibits shone with Warren county winning a grand medal for excellence. The county added seven Township High Schools in five years and expects 3000 dollars annual extra funding. A new brick school with a 400 volume library replaced the old Cornplanter Indian Reservation building. Rural schools show improved efficiency with diplomas rising from 22 in 1895 to 110 in 1904. Warren Tidioute and Warren schools feature strong manual training and domestic arts programs. Tidioute’s new public school building honors John and L L Hunter.
