Practical results soon from Rittman discovery
Washington reports that commercial manufacture of bases for high explosives and dyestuffs using Dr. Walter F. Rittman’s processes is expected within two weeks at the Pittsburgh plant of the Aetna Explosive Company. A small benzol batch has been produced commercially and with ten days to go, results on dyestuff and explosive and gasoline processes are anticipated. The Interior Department foresees Rittman patents enabling immediate American production of carbolic acid, whose price has surged over tenfold due to trade disruptions with Germany.
