Assembly and Senate Kill Tax Provisions and Pass Broad Reforms
The House approved the general revenue bill without restoring the tax exemption for corporate capital stock while taxing judgments and mortgages. The measure, reforming many 1885 provisions, would boost revenue by about $1,000,000 annually and exempts furniture, watches, and pleasure carriages. Senate actions include bills on coal and lumber interests, election officer drunkenness as a misdemeanor, and constitutional changes restricting poll tax and voting residence. Additional Senate measures address real estate for poor purposes, insolvent inmate discharge, mortgage liens, borough annexations, criminal punishment terms, notary acknowledgments, voter qualification, polling place changes, and railway worker hours.
