A gloomy tenement room houses a dying girl Katy and her hopeful brother Jamie. A stranger’s kindness funds fruit and medicine, saving a night of joy before Katy dies. In time, banker Mr Arnet recalls the boy’s plea, and by gift and promise becomes a guardian to the old man who helped him.
