In Harrisburg Mr. Stone’s maiden speech on the New County Bill draws intense attention. The measure fails 69 to 25 after lengthy debate as McJunkin and Stone lead opposition. Venango and Warren counties praise the young lawmakers for defeating the bill. The Oil City Times thanks Stone and McJunkin for stopping the proposal and Warren favors annexation to Venango. Other items note minstrel shows, thaumaturgical tricks, and letters from Atlantic Iowa describing western growth and potential.
