A colored servant sweeping a hotel boarder’s room finds a sixpence and returns it to the owner telling him to keep it for honesty. Soon after he loses a gold pencil case and when asked about it, replies I keep him for my honesty with simple candor.
During a College of Surgeons exam Abernethy questioned a candidate about what to do if a man were blown up with powder. The candidate replied he would wait until he came down and, in a follow up joke, named the flexors and extensors of the arm to knock Abernethy down. The exchange ended with the candidate receiving a diploma.
A note explains that when residents are away, visitors may borrow books and umbrellas only under designated rules. The policy outlines authorization needs and return expectations to manage items left behind.
