In Oil City Pennsylvania on February 28 1902 Charles L Taft aged 33 died by self-inflicted gunshot with coroner’s verdict. Funeral in Warren from his wife’s home with burial in Oakland. Also Peter B Holmes age 22 died on a train returning from travels, funeral in Warren with burial at Oakland cemetery. Other notices: Mrs Tripp funeral plans for Troy New York and Edmond Hoskins 71 buried in Oakland. Daniel Brogan 75 buried in St Josephs Warren.
Last weekend brought the highest flood in years as snowmelt, ice jams, and rain overflowed streams. Railroads were blocked for two days but trains are back running. Freeze ended the rise, saving greater damage. Water street and Conewango flats suffered cellar floods while snow lingers in woods.
The new council begins by re electing Clerk Beshlin and naming Charles Schimmelfeng as President. Borough Attorney Schnur is re elected. Warren's dailies praise city fathers, while initial plans hint at future work.
Our HospiTaL February report from Warren Emergency Hospital lists 11 patients in hospital February 1, 1902, 12 admitted in February, 2 treated, 13 discharged, and 9 in hospital February 28. The superintendent Miss Wishart has recovered from illness and resumes duties.
Mrs Philopene Fuellhart, stricken with apoplexy last Sunday, remains in critical condition at her Fifth street home with her sister Mrs Pauline Goodrich and many relatives alarmed. The text notes an elevator upgrade at Warren Savings Bank building and mentions transfers of P F McMahon and wife to Kane, along with Owens Buffalo Bread daily deliveries.
Warren borough council meets March 3 1902 with most members present. reports show $243.11 local bridge repair share and a year end financial statement showing a net borough balance after street pavement costs and various fund transfers. ordinance amendments for United States Pipe Line company are reviewed and final readings proceed. The meeting approves notes and payments, elects officers for the coming year, and defers street sprinkling and railway work until next committee appointments.
The D A V and P R R announce an excursion to Niagara Falls on Sunday March 9 with a 6 35 A M Warren departure. Tickets are 2 for round trip good on a 5 P M Niagara Falls return train. Lake Shore regular trains from Buffalo March 9 and 10 also offered.
Spring Creek property in Warren County offered at very low figures with many buildings and a fine sugar bush of 300 large trees. Dam repairable at small cost and a feed mill profitable. Large share of purchase money may remain. Inquiries to J H Cogswell Titusville Pa or EK J Cops adjoining farm.
The Struthers Hotel Barn is now in charge of John Stinger who will give special attention to farmers horses. Transient trade will be accommodated as there is no livery in connection.
