Washington June 28. War department to publish exemption regulations guiding local draft boards. Each man will be evaluated for individual occupation and physical capacity rather than class exemptions. Doctors will judge fitness and religious objectors may serve in noncombat roles behind lines.
Italian Prince of Udine leads the Italian Commission in New York while Baron Moncheur heads the Belgian Mission in Washington. Russian envoys include Lieut. Gen. Reports to the navy department say the U S S Olympia struck south of Cerberus shoal buoy in Brock Island sound. Engine and fire room flooded after impact. aftership list rose ten degrees. the ship lies in shoal water resting easily in 414 fathoms at the edge of the shoal.
The crew of the cruiser Olympia abandoned the vessel on orders after it ran aground near Brock Island and were brought to the naval station in Newport R. I. Other warships stood by while the Olympia was reported badly damaged.
Renewed Mexican raids in the Lower Rio Grande Valley are reported. An American rancher named Garcia was killed eight miles west of San Fordyce, his five daughters attacked, their mother mistreated, and a young cow badly beaten Sunday night before the raiders crossed back into Mexico.
