Memorial Day Observed by Warren Lodge of Odd Fellows
Warren Lodge of Odd Fellows held memorial services on the Oakland lot with about 100 brothers marching in the afternoon and 65 attending First M. E. Church in the evening for music and a sermon by Rev R L Waggoner of Tiffin Ohio. A near drowning occurred in the Allegheny river at Gladerun. a ten year old boy named Schumann was rescued by William Hollister after going beyond his depth. A barn at Venturetown near the North Warren refinery owned by Conrad Moatz burned, hay and grain lost, tools destroyed, insurance covering the loss. The Hook and Ladder Company rehearses for a Fourth of July exhibition with a fifty foot ladder and a $320 prize from Chief Windsor. J A Sampson lays a new oak floor on the suspension bridge from Pennsylvanian timber. David Cochran of Garland sustained serious injuries with multiple fractures at a Garland mill. Rev R S Van Pelt preached at Edinboro Presbyterian in place of Rev J W Smith. Mr and Mrs E M Clapp and daughter Nina left for East Boothbay Maine for summer housing.
