Defiant Women Repel Wyandot Attack at Elkhorn Cabin
A frontier defense tale set on April 27, 1798 near Frankfort Kentucky as Hosea and Jesse Cook are slain and their women Miriam Hope and Alice defend a chestnut-oval cabin against thirteen Wyandots. Miriam shoots the chief with a makeshift bullet, fires, and the women repulse the siege using fire, improvised weapons, and the feather bed. After a brutal fight, four Indians die and two escape while the family travels to Frankfort with the wounded MeAndre and bodies of the Cooks and McAndre.
