Civic Club urges mothers and housekeepers to participate in a town wide housecleaning week. Citizens should clean back alleys streets and vacant lots to reduce flies and disease, and report unsanitary sites to the Board of Health.
Warren residents look to the seashore and lake country for refreshment this summer. Chautauqua lake resorts remain popular, with many planning two to three week camping trips near home as an economical, restful alternative to crowded resorts.
Greensburg Pennsylvania July 21 Robert Snelling alias Kentucky Jack a deputy sheriff who shot and killed Jacob Cutler at Claridge a few days ago was held to await grand jury action.
Two Pittsburg detectives arrived at East Liverpool at the request of Safety Director Criss McConnell to assist in hunting bootleggers.

In TOrPEDO Pa on July 16, Mrs. George Benedict and Mrs. Charles Belknap of Ross Hill hunted berries. Belknap killed a large rattler with a stick, removing ten rattles. She then killed a second snake with eleven rattles, tied them, and presented the yellow pelts to Mr. Schofield of Warren and Mr. Woodbury of Thompson Station Land Plant.
Herbert G. Eaton of Superior Oil Works Harry Logan of United Refining Co Geo P Brockway of Seneca Oil Works and W F Bennett returned from Louisville Ky where they attended the Independent Petroleum Marketers Association annual meeting. About 250 attended as refiners from across the country gathered for the three day convention and heard a speech by Thomas F Hisgen the last Socialist presidential candidate. On the way home they stopped in Georgetown Ky for a barbecue hosted by Indian Refining Co and were entertained by Governor Wilson and staff.
In Florence New Jersey on July 18 Paolo a Romanian worker at Florence Iron Foundry died after being treated with large blocks of ice placed on his head neck and limbs during mid day heat. A physician had advised ice compresses. excessive cooling caused his death. No one was held responsible.
Governor Stuart announced W. D. Hinckley of Warren as presiding judge of the Warren-Forest district replacing Judge William E. Rice who resigned to join United States Leather company. Hinckley, partner in Hinckley Alexander & Co., had Warren county bar endorsement and is described as experienced and well suited for the post.
Mrs Hilma Shasta of 21388 Walnut street married Charles Natner after a job interview. They traveled to his farm on the Chicago and Milwaukee line when he fell ill and disappeared. She charges desertion. Natner is described as a Wisconsin farmer formerly married. Police report she is a 35 year old mother of two and previously divorced.
President Taft arrives at Bar Harbor aboard the Mayflower for social visits and a planned talk with tariff commission chair H C Emery. Senator Hale discusses Bangor plans while Maine politicos prepare to greet Taft before his trip to Bangor.
The Carnegie Steel Company in Youngstown resumes operation of its rail mill after a three year idleness period. An open hearth plant was built during the downtime and opens rails are being raised for the first time in Mahoning Valley history.
El Paso July 21 reports the first rain of the year fell yesterday in Southern Arizona. The San Pedro river overflowed its banks and a sixty mile valley was swept, causing extensive damage.

May berry Kibler of Brook Indiana asked Indiana’s State Board of Tax Commissioners to relieve him from paying taxes on six thousand dollars after claiming he lost the cash in poker in Chicago club rooms. The board said it would seek evidence from the Brook board to show whether Kibler still possesses the money.
In Kittanning Pennsylvania three justices of the peace, facing slow business, displayed signs to attract marriage licenses. Justice Isaac Miller offered You can get married here, Edward Lee added Married while you wait, and A B Nobley urged Why wait Get married here. No rise in licenses yet reported.
Chester bold move as attorney Joseph Hinkson reveals an old statute allowing aldermen and justices of the peace to commit habitual drunkards to the State Asylum for the Insane instead of jail. The law requires confinement in a dedicated treatment department until recovery.
The first raft of 3000 cords of spruce pulpwood from Pie Island, towed from a Canadian port across Lake Superior, reached Ashland, Wisconsin. American capital backs the venture. no duty on pulpwood. The raft is valued around $20,000 and about 25 percent loss was avoided.
The Chautauqua week of July 17 23 features lectures by John Graham Brooks president of the National Consumers League and of the American Social Science Association on fundamental reform. A Georgia man, W. V. Miller, once aided miner J. F. Curley during a stranded journey. Curley later died in Dawson City, Alaska, leaving Miller an estimated fortune of 500000 dollars. The inheritance was reported July 21 in acon, Georgia.
