First Second National Bank, one of the state's largest, closes amid government banking authority dispute over holdings value. Two other banks also shut, causing widespread panic though deposits are returned. Directors blame department actions and claim solvency and full repayment for depositors.
Four Rochester men died after their yacht broke apart in a Sunday morning storm on Lake Ontario while returning from Oswego. Frank Salzer, Edward Keele, Alexander Lemmon, and Frank McCullough perished. Keele and two companions perished after the wreckage washed ashore as Keele tried to reach safety. Salzer was vice president of the Perfection Shoe Co. of Rochester.
Paris July 10 Dr Du Bouchet who performed the operation on William P F McCoombs chairman of the democratic national committee said last evening the patient was doing well A friend of Mr McCoombs who visited the hospital in Avenue Victor Hugo was allowed to see him McCoombs had been seriously ill for months but thought surgery unnecessary until now

Lansing July 10 Black Bart Holzhay once sentenced for life to Marquette for highway robbery was released after 24 years. His Northern Michigan Wisconsin robberies matched Jesse James in audacity. Illiterate and unruly at arrival a surgical operation altered his conduct and he became a model prisoner pursuing study and literacy.
John M. Clancy of New York City appointed warden of Sing Sing to succeed John J. Kennedy. The change follows an investigation by the Westchester county grand jury into disclosures by Special Commissioner George W. Blake. Salary set at 3500 dollars yearly plus maintenance for the warden and family.
