Texas Gouvernorship Crisis with Davis Coke Clash

Attorney General Williams informed Governor Davis that the President would not send troops to sustain Davis in holding office beyond the Texas four year term. Governor Coke asserts he is constitutional governor and seeks surrender of the Executive office, while Davis honors a claim to continue until April twenty-eighth and defers to higher authority. Captain Clarke presses for State Department papers, but Newcomb resists. Davis reportedly retreats as Coke takes control.
