Fragmentary verse and prose medley from Lovisette Journal recalling memory and loss. A narrator laments lost loves Lilla and Mother Clifford while contemplating memory and the beauty of resilience through the image of a withered rose and the Resurrection flower.
A narrator recalls meeting Lilla on a sunny shore, their deep affection, and her sudden departure with a tall dark suitor. He later finds Lilla married to Charles Maitland and Mrs. Clifford’s cold approval deepens his heartbreak as he clings to memories and a shell and rosebud from happier times.
A 16 to 18 year old girl was attacked by a family dog while milk duties near Ossian. The dog mauled her face and arms as she fled and shut the door, finally being shot after the attack. The victim survived in a dangerous condition.
