Powder Trek to New Orleans Aided Revolutionary War
In 1776 Gibson and Linn led a secret expedition from Fort Pitt to New Orleans to buy six tons of powder amid Spanish opposition and British espionage. They faced Indian war threats and river dangers, smuggled the cargo back via the Ohio and Mississippi, reached Wheeling in 1777, and furnished powder for the patriot cause, earning rewards.
