New Sunbury and Erie route sketched by Jarret corps
The Ridgway Reporter describes Capt. Jarret and his corps building an entirely new Sunbury and Erie line from Sinnemahoning to Tionesta, seven teen miles via Owl Creek Summit in McKean county, avoiding tunnels with a shallowest cutting of about thirty feet. The route would run up Driftwood to Miller's at St Margreth, Elk Creek to Ridgway, then Clarion to Buena Vista, up Owl Creek to Owl Summit, and down Ten Mile Run to Bower's. He notes the heaviest grade is 52 45 feet to the mile and envisions the full Sunbury to Erie line without tunnels.
