Sunbury and Erie Rail Road Given Hope Amid Philadelphia Delay
The Warren Mail notes no Philadelphia progress on the Sunbury and Erie Rail Road while insisting the project will eventually be built. It criticizes Philadelphia for withholding support and credit, arguing the enterprise will succeed mostly due to “wild-cat courts” and local zeal, with outcomes dependent on unforeseen circumstances.

Mr. Johnson Lecture Promotes Prohibitory Law Rally
The Temperance friends heard S P Johnson argue strongly for a Prohibitory Law at the Court House on Wednesday evening. The speech was well prepared and forceful, condemning the current liquor traffic and urging voters in Warren County to hear it. The report notes Sunbury and Erie railroad engineers will survey river sides, with $30 000 at stake, and mentions new desks for the Academy. Returns from Vermont show a large Prohibitory liquor law majority, tougher than the Maine Law. The Warren Lyceum’s next meeting at the Court House will discuss Cuba annexation benefits to the United States.

Railroad Meeting Discusses Conewango Route Proposal
At a February 10, 1853 meeting in Conewango township the committee urged Buffalo and Pittsburgh Railroad to connect with the Allegheny Valley line via Conewango and Tionesta creeks. They argue for low grades, a survey-backed route, coal and iron ore access, timber, and limited steep grades, detailing a 110 mile path from Buffalo to Warren and then to the Allegheny Valley Railroad.
