Berlin reports a Prussian suffragette letter to Tageblatt claiming German girls plan to become British subjects and marry Canadian farmers. It notes meat prices and marriage pressures risk pushing eligible women to emigrate for marriage opportunities.
February 16 Albany report shows Franklin D. Roosevelt and insurgent followers abandoning Edward M. Shepard to back John D. Kernan. Kernan nets 75 of 183 total votes in the United States Senate contest with 92 needed for choice. Shepard gets three. Roosevelt says the shift signals no permanent change, just potential coalition if desired.
Benjamin F. Jenks, son of a Cornell professor, faces trial after arrest for participation in the Feb 4 Ithaca riot. His lawyer asked for an adjournment to Feb 23 for defense witnesses. Citizens testified to barking and crowing during a Lyceum show and throwing missiles, while police described him as disorderly. Mrs Ellen Colfax widow of former Vice President Schuyler Colfax is critically ill at her South Bend residence. Doctors report general debility as the cause and say she is not expected to survive the week. she is about 70 years old.
W B Jones of Madotrd a went into the woods and brought the hide of a 40 pound wild cat shot with a single bullet from his rifle. The ferocious beast proved one of the largest cats seen in years in the Buck Lick area.

Thomas J Mann a veteran Pennsylvania editor and Wayne County Herald proprietor died at Liukewood New Jersey on Saturday. Born February 20 1837 in Honesdale Wayne County he served two terms as assistant judge of the Wayne County bench and led the Herald for over fifty years. He married Lanra K K Paddock of Binghamton New York in 1863.
Detectives recovered the body of Anna M. McCullum from a copper case inside a crypt in the Scott mausoleum Erie cemetery. The body had been removed from its original resting place in a crys it and found in a nearby crypt not twenty feet away.
Robert Caple a well known figure in Central New York died in his cabin at Clayville N Y ten miles south of Utica aged 79 years He was noted for eccentricity simplicity and humility spanning more than twenty years of life in the region

The building’s owner, Charles Neatley, and his family escaped as the child perished inside. loss estimated at 2500 dollars with partial insurance. Mrs. Bentley led two children out and reentered smoke filled rooms to search for Dorothy before flames trapped her and the others.
