A severe rainstorm around Bradford, Pa and southern Cattaraugus County, N Y caused a freight engine to plunge through a culvert near Salamanca, killing fireman Bryan and likely fatally injuring engineer Daniel Richard of Hornell. A rural carrier George Hinman and a passenger Balander died near Humphrey. Raymond Smith, 7, drowned in Tuna Creek. Otto, N Y. saw seven cows killed by lightning in a storm that flooded streams and damaged property. The Salamanca trolley system suffered, with washouts east of the city halting traffic to Olean for days. Floods are said to be the worst in 40 years.
