First Farmington schoolhouse described in Venango County memory
A letter recounts the log school built circa 1812 near the Proper Settlement in Venango County Pa six miles from Titusville on the Meadville road. It details the rough structure with bark roof split log floor seating, a door window setup, mud and rag for doors, grease paper for windows, and a smoke vent. The writer recalls attending at age five, hearing musics of diverse nationalities, moving to Youngsville later, and visiting the old homestead after fifty years.
