A daring plan to wreck the eastbound Philadelphia and Erie express failed when a freight crew discovered chains and pins on Five Mile curve. A confrontation ensued with Officers Higgins and Watson. Watson was shot at and Higgins detained a wrecker named Edward Moore, a 30 year old shoemaker, who carried a burglar’s kit.
