Crowded Chautauqua Advances Attendance and Arts

Crowded assembly at Chautauqua July 29 reports 28th session in full swing with higher attendance than last year and many new cottages. Music features include Dr Palmer’s choir of 400 voices, a new quartet, Rogers’ band, and lectures by Chautauqua notables Talmage Axson and Williams. Public school teachers attend, and youth clubs organize park guards to keep grounds clean, while a rain interruptions test performers on stage.

Elks Elect New Grand Exalted Ruler at Milwaukee

Charles E. Pickett of Waterloo Iowa was chosen grand exalted ruler succeeding Judge Jerome Fisher of Jamestown. The Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks reports 725 lodges with 96,000 members, 113 new dispensations granted, and a Galveston fund contribution of 17,041 dollars. The grand lodge treasury shows a 30,000 dollar balance.
