A St Louis Leader summary recounts a Chicago era deed of trust for twelve thousand dollars secured by real estate. The debtor wandered South and abroad, returning penniless. the creditor’s lawyer discovers the deed now valued at eighty six thousand dollars, yielding about sixty five thousand for the debtor.
The Southern Convention at Savannah on January 10 heard Mr. Goulding of Georgia ask if tearing families apart in Virginia or buying and Christianizing Africans is a greater crime.
