Dying Engineer Recalls Eighteen Sixty Nine Fire Train Dash
Duff Brown, an aged locomotive engineer, tells of a perilous 1869 ride from Prospect to Brocton on the Buffalo Corry and Erie line. Fire engulfed oil cars, the train raced at eighty miles an hour through sharp curves, and a switch signal by the Lake Shore express spared many lives before the inferno burned away.
