Congressional Debates on Chinese Exclusion and Retaliation Bills
Senate and House proceedings feature stalemates on the Chinese restriction bill. Sherman and Hoar withhold votes, while a vote short of quorum delays action. The House pursues the retaliation bill amid personal clashes, and a later vote is set for Saturday. Separate topics include sundry civil appropriations and irrigation funding. Fever relief donations reach 2,596.75 dollars for Jacksonville victims.

Other notes include Ida Finn’s murder at her grandfather’s home, a fossil find near Sunbury described as a human-face impression, a dynamite case involving Jechler and McChitock in Union City, Lena Obermeyer’s suicide near Millvale, and several local deaths and incidents across Uniontown, Bethlehem, Hellertown, and Philipsburg.
