Charles Tennyson Turner born July 4, 1808 son of a famed poet and brother of Alfred Tennyson. He studied at Cambridge 1832 became Vicar of Grasby and, by a relative’s will, changed his surname to Turner. He died April 2, 1979. Lightning Flash Counts and Volcanic Ground Near Naples
Last August a traveler counted 4750 flashes of lightning in an hour and a half averaging about 53 per minute with bursts near 100 per minute. By centuries of deposit the earth has compacted over the mouth of an extinct volcano near Naples allowing walking on the surface. The ground feels hollow and remains hot to touch and gases are emitted in places.
