Water surge floods Mansfield mine drowning twenty eight workers

In Crystal Falls Michigan on September 29 a flood from the Michigamie river breached a weakened shed and cave‑in at the Mansfield mine. Twenty eight men working directly under the collapse perished, while eighteen of the forty six miners avoided the cave-in by being in lower levels or escaping.
