Leaders of Amalgamated advise strikers to yield after a five month fight at Carnegie's Homestead. At a Sunday meeting the vote 101 in favor and 91 against declared the strike off, amid mixed feelings among workers and relief funds threatened for those losing positions.
The Quarter Sessions Court docket adds cases for trial on the first Monday of December including Com. v. Houldfast malicious mischief, Loomis desertion, Thompson assault and battery, Brason assault and battery, Lewis Post argon, McDonald larceny, Daly wife desertion, Geo. Scott horse stealing, Day furnishing liquor, and Martin Sheehan assault and organ. A fire at Blake Opera House block and adjacent brick blocks causes about 60000 in losses with half covered by insurance. Andrews and Calkins suffer major losses as offices are ruined by water. Pedagogical discussions at Edinboro State Normal School wintering benefit local teachers and students with officials Waller Handy Missmer Bullock Burns and others. winter term begins December 12. Pennsylvania Railroad sells winter excursion tickets to northern resorts with return through May 30, 1898. DeWitt's Witch Hazel Salve advertised for piles with Noyes Drug and East Warren Pharmacy.
Warren County Pomona Grange No 10 met last in 1842 planning two year officer terms. Topics covered include highway wagons school education and county fair benefits with several Grange groups contributing. Installation slated for Friday afternoon and a fifth degree conferment Thursday evening with delegates urged to attend. Also notes on local events and a benefit performance for the Soldiers' Memorial Home in Brookville.
University Extension announces a lecture next Monday evening at Library Hall on the Distribution of Wealth and Wages. General admission reduced to 10 cents, reserved seats 25 cents. No one can afford to miss it. Go early and get a seat.
