The 28th annual Warren County teachers institute opened Monday afternoon with devotional exercises and speeches by Prof. A B Miller and others. About 270 teachers enrolled. evening lecture by Mary A. Livermore on Wendell Phillips followed. Tuesday and Wednesday featured primary work and lectures by Dr Mary Allen and Rus sel Conway on Acres of Diamonds. Thursday included Col Conwell and further talks. Friday to close with essays and committee reports.

Tragedy Strikes P and E Brakeman at Sheffield
Fred Wilcox, a 22 year old brakeman on the P and E, fell from a car during switching at Sheffield last Monday evening and was instantly killed. His body was taken to Warren for burial, Wilcox a resident of Higin, Erie county, on his first and last trip. Funeral services were held in Wigin.

Explosion at Titusville Bedstead Works Kills Watchman
In Titusville Pennsylvania at 2 AM a boiler burst at the Bedstead works, tearing watchman John Carlsen to pieces. The explosion sent the boiler dome 200 feet into the air, crashing through the Burges steel works roof. Carlsen left a wife and six children in Sweden awaiting word.

J A Tucker of North Craftawoy was halted by two highwaymen while driving from Warren on Saturday night near Stoneham. One thief grabbed the horse while the other reached for Tucker’s money but was struck in the eyes with a whip handle. The horse bolted, leaving the assailants in the road.
