Two Fires and a Lighthouse Fight on South Carolina Coast
During the Civil War a lighthouse on North Island near Winyaw Bay was destroyed, rebuilt by Federal troops, then men from a sloop attempt to seize its supplies. The narrator, George Wilson, and a trigger-happy raider confront a group seeking loot. A firefight ensues, leaving the leader wounded and the raiders retreating as Wilson escapes with a sloop, while the narrator defends the lighthouse through the night.
