Random Thoughts and Vignettes From Contemporary Life
A collage of quips and anecdotes covers diverse topics from trials in Delphi Indiana to satirical notes on public figures and editors. It notes a trade paper named the Dorset promising to stay, quirks of courtship, and a six foot four inch, 364 pound British officer. It lampoons journalism, manners, gender bias, and rural life with humorous asides about circuses, pay, and trains.

FIRST EXECUTION AT DESK JOE BRADY HANGED AT DAWN
Joe Brady was hanged at 8 oclock this morning before about 10 000 people outside the prison yard. A strong force of cavalry infantry and police kept order. Brady walked to the scaffold without faltering after prayer by Canon Kennedy and Father O Reilly. His mother visited him and warned him not to talk. The coroner ruled death by spinal rupture. The crowd dispersed quietly after the black flag appeared. Brady wore his trial clothes and a last letter to his mother was written.

Republicans Try Bolt Strategy For New York Fall Election
The report argues Republicans plan a Democratic bolt to win New York in the fall election. It recalls past independents like Jon Ran for governor and the 1879 New York loss that aided Democrats. It questions Tammany’s role and whether it can again aid Republicans. A Jackson iron works furnace burned today in Michigan, with a loss of 300,000 dollars.
