Fire damages store and office at Eddy building
Last Wednesday two o'clock morning fire gutted the brick Eddy building housing A Mintzer & Co's Grocery and the Daily Reeporter above. Fire halted by delayed steamer access, causing about a thousand dollars more loss than insured, with Mintzer's stock—insured for two thousand—unrecoverable or damaged, and Mr Eddy uninsured. The Reporter office, once owned by E D Strang and later by S T Allen, faced the blaze from its stove shaft, while surrounding businesses escaped major damage. Mintzer to relocate stock to Liberty street while rebuilding takes weeks.

Bill to curb libel suits in Pennsylvania reform
The Pennsylvania editorial association backs a bill to curb libel actions by banning more than one libel suit per alleged offense and one prosecution per offense. It argues existing law is problematic but notes public sentiment often mitigates abuse, urging truthfulness over strict penalties and citing frequent defeats of libel plaintiffs.
