Starting a newspaper in a town of five thousand costs explained
Special correspondence from New York details the capital and running expenses for starting a weekly or daily in a 5090 population town. It covers paper types, plates versus ready print, type, presses, office setup, staff salaries, telegraph and news service costs, and overall weekly payroll estimates for a four page daily versus a country weekly. It emphasizes large upfront capital, cash purchases for discounts, and the scale of operations needed to compete with big cities.
