A Traitor Crew Mutinies A Missionary Brig
In January 1870 the missionary brig Gospel Truth sailed from New Caledonia to Sunday island with six missionaries. Mutineers led by the pirate-like crewman Buttons murder the captain Knowles and thwarted plans for a colony or trade. The narrator, aboard the White Wings, survived a man overboard episode and later intervened, aiding the brig’s return to New Zealand while the mutineers faced no legal punishment.
