The New York Cyclone Rips Through Lewis and Jefferson Counties

Utica June 10 reports say storms from two directions merged north of the city to form a cyclone causing extensive damage in Lewis and southern Jefferson counties. Farm crops, fences, orchards destroyed. Port Leyden iron works buildings demolished. chimneys gone and streets impassable from debris. Phinney Settlement residents seriously injured. Hoyt Briggs and S W Riggs buildings roof torn. Camden reports Mrs Spain killed when her Florence home collapsed. this is the only fatality thus far.

Proclamation Calls Idlers From Lock Haven Streets

Mayor Mason issues a city wide warning for all idlers and tramps to leave Lock Haven Pa. Able bodied men will receive work on the streets and provisions will be given only to the deserving. Wilson M Gearhart reports a great need for funds for sanitary improvements. total cash donations reach 8677 dollars with a possible requirement of 50000 or more. A court official and other citizens plan to visit Harrisburg and Philadelphia to urge state aid from the governor and mayor.

Reunion of the Davis Family Forms Society

A large Davis family reunion organized the Davis Historical Society led by S. W. Davis of Warren as president, W. J. Davis of Warren as historian, and W. M. Davis of Warren as secretary. A reunion is planned for June 27, 1889 near William A. Davis’s residence by the Brokenstraw at Youngsville with speeches, music, and a family picnic from 1 to 2 PM.
