The fragment mirrors era marketing and social stereotypes in a chaotic catalog of products and quips.
A 19th century ad describes Dr Frazier’s Magic Ointment as a universal cure for skin ailments including pimples blackheads blotches and eruptions. It claims cures for barber’s itch salt rheum tetter ringworm scald head chapped hands sore nipples lips and obstinate ulcers. It cites a Cleveland man’s recovery and sells by mail for fifty cents with Henry & Co as proprietors. Also advertises Dr William’s Pile Ointment at one dollar by mail.
Anna M Krider announces she, wife of Tobias Kider, aged over seventy four, recovered from long illness after using Hep Bitters. She suffered weakness cough dyspepsia debility and bowel constipation but three bottles restored appetite and health. She urges others to try the medicine.
