The Railway World foresees broad recovery in 1876 with a larger trade and revived manufacturing. It notes abundant harvests and cheap food and clothing, while criticizing Radical policy and currency tinkering for depression. A separate piece urges culture to cure gossip, praising educated conversation over petty talk and recounting a Detroit New Year’s Day incident ending in a sailor’s suicide.

He also mentions selling milk locally and using prewers’ malt as part of a feeding regimen.

Moody on Temples of the Holy Spirit at Four O Clock Meeting

Mr Moody urges care of the body as a temple of the Holy Spirit and warns tobacco harms health. He recounts personal conversion, mentions artesian well imagery, and laments theatre and worldly temptations as ministers strive to keep worshippers pure. About 3,000 rise as they seek the Spirit, with Sankey leading. Also notes 11338 blind men and 8977 blind women in U S and Forney to resume Philadelphia Press editorship in February. Courtship as siege, matrimony as victory.
