Court Disposes Several Cases In January 1889 Plea Session

The January 1889 court session opened after 10 with Judge Brown and associates. Several cases settled or verdicts rendered including Logan vs Dale et al for $636, Struthers Wells $1315, and Amos Beebe interpleader resolving ownership of levied property. Brazington vs Hanson concerned Warren borough parcels 32 33 36 37 with a life deed dispute over Archibald Tanner Sally Brazington heirs at stake. non suit upheld, rule to show cause granted. Other juries returned verdicts in Holms Johnson partnership dispute favoring defendant, and a scire facias on a mechanics lien awarded to plaintiff. Multiple cases continued to future dates.

Husband of Emma Abbott Dies Suddenly in Denver

Eugene Wetheril husband of prima donna Emma Abbott died suddenly in the Windsor hotel Denver from pneumonia and heart disease. He had arrived from Los Angeles to finalize a real estate transfer after Emma Abbott had recently purchased a block for 54000 dollars and was offered 70000. Wetheril fell ill on the Santa Fe trip, appeared to improve, then expired after breakfast.

Death of Cashier Benj E Hopkins at 208 Richmond Street

Benj E Hopkins former assistant cashier of the defaunet Fidelity bank died at 6 30 this morning at his home No 208 Richmond Street He had been pardoned by the president on December 20 and only learned of it when the Columbus penitentiary papers arrived January 4 His death followed a joyful reunion with family and visitors were barred from the house.
