Indian Battle at Wounded Knee Described as Treacherous
Bright and early the troops moved toward the Indian village where Forsyth formed lines around the camp. Indians were ordered forward, but returned with only two guns after a search found thirty-eight more. The attack began suddenly, guns sprayed from close range, and hundreds fled south while the Seventh Cavalry pursued. About fifty soldiers were killed or wounded, including Captain Wallace. Lt. Garlton was wounded, and the fight lasted over an hour.

Mr Frank B Stranahan died at his home near Spartansburg on December 19 1890 at nearly 77 after an eight week illness of dropsy. He was the youngest son of G J and Dollie Stranahan of Concord township and uncle to Dr D Stranahan of Warren. He leaves two sons and two daughters all married, with two siblings and several relatives noted. The obituary recalls his ready acceptance of death and lengthy frailty in recent years.
