Cuba in Riches and Ruin as Seen From Abroad
A historical snapshot notes Cuba as a valuable yet oppressed land near Florida. It details harsh taxes totaling millions, a despotic government muzzling the press, a long revolution, and widespread corruption with officials living off tax revenue. It also mentions a past offer by Polk for Cuba and hints at noble titles available for purchase. The portrait praises look and resilience of the Cuban people while warning of financial collapse.
