Grants Memorial Drive and National Club Talks Planned
The Grant Monument committee in New York adopted a draft circular inviting architects and sculptors to compete for designing the memorial. The cost is placed at 50 000 dollars. A national club conference with Democratic clubs is set for late March or early April to discuss party matters and organize a national club structure. The National Banquet for this year will be in Baltimore around July 1. Prince William of Germany celebrated his 20th birthday and was promoted to major general and commander of the second infantry guards. The Delaware Lackawanna & Western railroad reports a stock surplus of about 8.16 million dollars for the year ending December 31.

Lamar Confirmed by Senate Sparks National Debate
A compilation of editorials from Philadelphia Record and other papers defends Justice Lamar after his confirmation, condemns Republican opposition as partisan, and argues the Union remains strong despite cries of division. Praise focuses on Lamar’s competence and the nation’s resilience. The round of commentary also notes youthful Senate members and rail progress in Mexico.
