Fragmentary note to Robin Goodfellow and faery crew

A garbled, archaic sounding message mentions Robin Goodfellow, Master Daw, dreams, omens, and faeries. The text weaves in and out with nonsensical lines about dances, poems, blooms, and dew, appearing as a fragmented fantasy fragment with no clear event or date.

A Strange Shipwreck Off Trinidad on the Duchess

An old account recounts the 1800 voyage of the English brig Duchess bound for Parnahyba, with a drunken captain, a near mutinous crew, and a desperate crew effort after a black crew member threatens violence. The vessel battles erratic weather, dismastings, and a near disaster as barrels salvage and mutiny threats shape a perilous voyage.

Drifting Alone Aboard After Loss That Long Month

Aboard the brig and then the whaler Lucy rescues the sole survivor after a month adrift. The captain’s log entries describe dwindling crew, suicides, illnesses, and a 1500 mile drift toward the coast with only one sighting and eventual rescue by the United States ship.

Imbedded Bats Found in Rock Near Romney WV and Barton MD

A living bat was found imbedded in solid rock on W. V. Herriott’s premises near Romney West Virginia by Herriott and Charles Corbin during quarrying. The bat occupied a central hollow in the stone and died after being kept near a warm stove. A similar incident occurred in the Swanton mine at Barton Maryland where miner Anthony Rehs extracted a bat from coal and it died days later. A plaster cast of the cavity matched the bat’s shape, and the find was about a mile from the mine entrance and 200 feet below the face.
