Remarkable Find Illuminates Hermit Miss Hicks
In Dumphrey County a reclusive maiden named Miss Hicks was found dead and ruled no foul play. A farmer uncovering her cabin revealed thousands in bank notes and bonds hidden in crevices, plus gold and silver coins totaling thirty five to forty thousand dollars. The surprising fortune emerged as the coroner weighed the death and a separate obituary notes Mr. Vanderbilt dying swiftly after a private life. The funeral is planned at St. Bartholomew’s Church with interment in the Moravian cemetery on Staten Island.

Wm H Vanderbilt aged 41? died at his Fifth Avenue residence at 3 pm from paralysis of the brain. Eldest son of Cornelius Vanderbilt, he was born May 8 1821 in New Brunswick NJ. A rail executive, he led Staten Island railroad and NY Hudson River lines, later becoming president of the consolidated Central and Hudson River systems. He was known as generous and hospitable, inheriting the Vanderbilt estate.

Burglar Shot and Captured in Clymer Village
A watchman spotted a burglar in Blodgett's dry goods store near Corry Pennsylvania. Fifteen men pursued the intruder after a bold dash for liberty. The burglar was shot in the back and captured alive despite refusing to reveal his name or home. A switch key was found on him and he formerly worked for the company in Meadville.
