Donation land grants in Pennsylvania reveal long running land grabbers
The Pennsylvania Assembly granted officers and soldiers land as donations, yet dishonest surveyors and land grabbers sought to locate warrants on prime soil. General Irvine examined the district, reporting struggles against speculators. Letters from 1785-86 show survey conflicts, proposed boundary adjustments, and calls to protect soldiers' warrants while reallocating deputies to improve efficiency. Observers note local charity care at Warren Insane Asylum and a rise in prohibition votes.
