George Jones ex owner of the New York Times remembered
The death of George Jones, late proprietor of the New York Times, is noted as the man who exposed the Tweed ring. Born August 11, 1811 in Poultney Vermont to Welsh parents, he befriended Horace Greeley, formed a business path in newspapers, and helped launch the Times on September 18, 1851. He steered the paper through decades, oversaw the Park Row office project, and was later bonded by infirmities.
