Miss Maggie Shannon and her brother from near Mercer were picking blackberries when neighbor George Wallace fired into a patch, injuring Miss Shannon in the leg with 23 No. 4 bird shot. A physician attended. she is reported doing well.
Aug 19 report says burglars entered John Forman's house in Spring Creek, administered ether, and attempted to steal cash. Forman armed with a large knife awoke first and scared them away as Mrs Forman cried out that she was sick. Local residents note the break-in and escape.
A Monday runaway on Jenkin's hill saw Mr Christian Hanson and his light wagon topple as frightened by a calf fed by a boy. Two children escaped unhurt while Hanson suffered head cuts and bruises to his hip and leg. The horses were not seriously hurt.

A railroad accident near Meadville killed a man identified as Brigg Briges after he jumped to switch a line on a BON & P train. A grand benefit ball planned for August 26 in North Clavenpox features the Hugh McNeill ladies relief corps No 31, with supper by the Henry house and music by Clarendon brass and string band.
At about 10 am yesterday a mixed group of Indians and white men gathered at Big Bend to pull a brash seine. Word spread and over 500 people from the area gathered, with the Clarendon band providing music. The catch yielded about six barrels of fish and the operation, illegal, may not profit the offenders.
Daniel Packard, about 23, was fatally struck in the stomach by a board at a Wilcox sawmill. He lived nearly fifteen hours, unable to speak, while his father reached him before death. He was buried Sunday in Spring Creek Cemetery.

Kane Express agent, about thirty, fled with a large sum in cash and a revolver. He was arrested on a freight train near Bradford after a midnight telegraph call. Found cash, revolver, and cartridges. taken to station in irons. Nearby items describe tragic lynching, suicides, and elopements.
The Youngsville Benefit Ball at the skating rink on August 18 drew attendees from Warren and nearby towns to raise funds for fire equipment. Reig's orchestra provided music while guests enjoyed a plentiful spread at the Pairmont house hosted by Gregory, Allen, Wilbur, James, Curnard Deer, Ricker, and Deni Sugar Grove.
Mr and Mrs Alexander Brown of this place were surprised Monday evening on their fourteenth wedding anniversary. About fifty friends neighbors and relatives gathered at their home bringing refreshments and sharing in pleasant remarks and conversation.

The Democratic State Convention in Harrisburg opened at 10:30 AM with Judge M. C. Herman as temporary chair. Mortimer I. Elliott elected permanent chairman. nominations for governor included William A. Wallace and Henry McCormick amid strong party support. Wallace led 129 to 192 for Black, with Black eventually declared nominee after a unanimous motion. Ricketts later secured the lieutenant governorship. other tickets named include Maxwell Stevenson for congressman-at-large and J. Simpson Africa for internal affairs. The platform backs Cleveland's administration, a fair tax revision, and a robust labor plank, noting losses of Hendricks, McClellan, Seymour, Hancock, and Tilden.
